Lisa Thornton
About me
Lisa qualified as a solicitor in March 2007 and joined Leeds Day in June 2017.
Prior to that, she studied French and Management at Royal Holloway, University of London and spent a year living in Paris as part of her degree before converting to law. Lisa then studied the Legal Practice Course at the College of Law whilst training and qualified in 2007. Lisa worked in-house as assistant legal counsel before returning to private practice.
Outside of work, Lisa enjoys playing the viola in a local orchestra and supporting local events such as the build of a local playground and Peterborough Night Shelter. She also enjoys dancing and exploring the countryside with her two daughters and their mischievous dog!

Lisa specialises in rural & agricultural land matters and commercial property and, in particular:
Rural and agricultural land matters:
Investigating the extent of a landowner’s land and who is deemed to own such land according to the deeds
Acting for clients in the registration of their estates/farmland
Arranging for farmland/estates to be transferred to a farming partnership, a relative or in accordance with a deceased person’s will
Acting for buyers and sellers of rural land including investigating any existing tenancies of the land
Landlord and tenant work – acting for landlords and tenants in connection with:
Granting, surrendering and assigning leases
Licences to assign
Licences for alterations
Deeds of variation of leases
Site acquisitions and disposals – acting for developers in connection with:
Conditional contracts and option agreements
Joint venture agreements
Overage provisions
Disposing of units once practical completion of a site’s development has been achieved
Business purchases – acting for buyers and sellers of businesses in connection with:
Transferring a business’s assets from seller to buyer
Assigning the goodwill of a business
Assigning any intellectual property rights of a business from seller to buyer
Liaising with local authorities as regards premises licences
Acting for lenders in secured lending transactions:
Performing legal due diligence
Creating security for lenders
Acting in connection with general property transactions such as:
Deeds of release of restrictive covenants
Deeds of easement such as rights of way and right to receive services
Buying, selling and registering unregistered land
Transfers of part
